About the Canadian Artist Painter, Laurie Ryan, Federation of Canadian Artist member, Kelowna, Okanagan, BC
FCA Artist Laurie Ryan
It is with deep sadness that we let you know that Laurie Ryan has passed away. Please be advised that all art sales have been temporarily put on hold!
Laurie Ryan was born on the Canadian prairies. Growing up on a farm, she gained an early appreciation for the changing seasons. She loves realism in landscapes, but strives to show a looser, more impressionistic version now.
A large part of Laurie's work includes portraiture and animals. Being able to portray personality and feelings in an image, is very rewarding.
Laurie began painting seriously in 2012, when she retired and was living in Mississippi. She took many workshops and classes in Oil, Acrylic and Water Colour - enjoying each discipline equally.
Since moving to West Kelowna in 2014, she has continued her artistic journey, continuing to take classes and workshops with the many talented artist both in the province, and the rest of Canada. Laurie is an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Central Okanagan Chapter. Her work can be found at New Moon Gallery in West Kelowna, and in her home studio.
What began with crayons and colouring books, has become a life long creative journey that has taken many forms.
During my career days, and later as a full time Mom of two very active boys, my interest in art never diminished, but the time I could devote to it certainly did!
When I became an empty nester, living in Ocean Springs Mississippi, I then had time to devote my full attention to my present artistic passion - painting. Ocean Springs has a vibrant arts community, and I immersed myself in learning oils, acrylic and water colour, from the the exceptional artists I met in the South. I especially love landscapes and portraits. Here in the Okanagan - art inspiration is easy to find!
I have been influenced by the Old Masters, of course, but continue to be inspired by the many talented artists of today - learning is a life long journey.
I am an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Central Okanagan Chapter, and paint with various art groups around Kelowna. My work can be found in the New Moon Gallery in West Kelowna.
I am very grateful to be able to pursue my passion here in the Okanagan.

CONTRIBUTING ARTIST FOR GCWR
I have been part of this NonProfit organization since its inception in 2013. I sketch animal images for TeeShirts and Stationary items, that they use as part of their Fundraising initiative.
With Coastal storms and Hurricanes being a regular occurrence in Mississippi, wild animals sustain injuries or become orphaned.
This group of dedicated volunteers and professionals rehab these animals and return them to their natural habitat. I am happy to help them in my small way.
